There are different kinds of people making up the World. There are those who constantly look for what might go wrong next (pessimists) those who are somewhere in the middle (pragmatists) and then, at the furthest extreme, there are those that constantly expect the best outcome in every situation; who are then crushed when things go wrong (unrealistic optimists). I have to confess to having been the latter and, occasionally, though painting on my brightest smile, the former! When life seems to be dealing you one raw deal after another it’s easy to become fearful of the next knock.
Last year at this time Facebook reminded me that I had posted a great little article from the Huffington Post about optimistic people. In the article they describe ‘realistic optimists’ I believe that, over time, this is what I have become. I believe great things will happen but that is tempered with a healthy dose of realism. There is always Plan B – Z to fall back on!
I have met some fantastic people, particularly over the past couple of years, who believe in the law of attraction. It isn’t that they don’t think bad stuff happens to good people but they radiate positivity and find the golden nugget in every situation. Everyone who knows me knows I have a huge faith. In the bible, Paul was imprisoned, beaten, persecuted – you name it – but still he talks about finding joy (that really is a whole other blog on joy being different to happiness)
Life has what I like to call (think Miranda’s mother here!!)… ‘Pinch me and who punched me’ times
Recently I have been blessed to experience some incredible things. My business is really beginning to develop in the direction I want it to. I was invited to, and attended, the Queen’s Garden Party (in her 90th birthday year) a good friend of mine organised for me to borrow a Mercedes for the weekend; another friend who is a lady racing driver organised for our family to see her race at Oulton Park; not one but two friends lent me their beautiful homes, to take the family to at half term …and the sun shone brightly … I could go on and on. I really have said ‘pinch me’ so many times. It’s felt like a dream. That doesn’t mean I haven’t dealt with some pretty tough stuff in and amongst and some horrendous stuff over the years – and those are the times it feels like someone has punched you! More like a nightmare than a dream.
Through my consultancy I offer a listening service which helps people ‘mind dump’ reframe, think aloud and regain some perspective. I offer an individual service for executives and also a staff listening service for organisations. I have also started to offer ‘lunch and learn’ workshops or perhaps ‘peace and prosecco’ might work for you! These sessions are designed to help people discover the tools to build resilience and find moments of joy in this busy World.
If I can help you personally or your organisation with either of these things do get in touch.
And in the meantime. remember, this too will pass! so, if life is incredible savour every second. But, if life is feeling pretty relentless it will be alright in the end and, if it isn’t alright then it isn’t the end. Hang on in there!
