I have been waiting to compile this very first blog for my website because I wanted it to be meaningful and exciting and encouraging … then I realised that I might never get round to writing it, that perfect moment would become more elusive the longer time went on.
I am reading a fantastic book at the moment called ‘How to be here’ by Rob Bell. He talks about people who become paralysed into inaction, unable to begin because they are dwelling on unhelpful thoughts of ‘What if I fail?’ ‘what happens if this …’ He describes it as thinking about ‘step 67’ when you need to be thinking about ‘step 1’ There is a real focus on mindfulness at the moment in our busy, stressful World. This book, written by a very real and relevant Christian author is accessible to anybody, of any faith or of none.
So, here I am then, step one … opening up my laptop, step two … beginning to write the thoughts which come into my mind
I am a member of the Best of Bolton and attend the Women in Business monthly meeting. Having just set up my business and becoming a consultant I was offered the ‘hot seat’ which gives one person – me – the chance to ask the others for advice and guidance with a particular aspect of business development. For me it was how to market myself, ensuring that my potential clients would clearly understand what my offer was. One of the suggestions was to blog about a different aspect each time so that is what I plan to do.
My next blog will be about the listening service I offer, who it is suitable for, how I think it can help, why I think it is essential and what qualifies me to be offering it ….
Until then I want to share a few of the things which have been happening in my life since I set up my business.
- I have put everything in place for an exciting and brand new charity for Bolton. At the present moment charity status is applied for and funding is being sought after which we will be ready to launch … so watch this space
- I had a wonderful break over Easter with my youngest daughter in Paris. My family are incredibly supportive of my work and it is important to me to spend quality time with them, especially after I have been ‘full on’ developing a project.
- I have been invited to one of the Queen’s Garden parties in May. I feel very honoured to have been chosen, particularly in the year of her 90th birthday. I am taking Bill with me, because, frankly, I could not have achieved any of the things I have without his amazing rock-like support.
- And, speaking of achievements, I am one of 16 women who have recently been recognised as an Inspirational Woman in the Community of Bolton for 2016. It was a really superb evening and very humbling listening to the stories of my fellow nominees. Great to be awarded alongside my inspirational mentor, Maura Jackson. This lady exemplifies how to be a charity CEO in her leadership of Bolton Young Persons Housing scheme. Thank you Gulnaz Brennan and all involved.
Back to the consultancy, where, amongst other things I have set up my first Listening Service for an organisation. I look forward to telling you more very soon..
Have a great Bank Holiday! Thanks for reading. And remember, enjoy every moment, one moment at a time.
